I have received a series of text messages from this mobile number in which the sender claims to be “Ben from FedEx†and directs me to a link embedded in the message to learn the status of a pending FedEx delivery. [Obviously, I didn’t click on the link.]
Yesterday, I spoke with a FedEx customer service representative on another matter, but asked about whether FedEx drivers (or other FedEx employees) had authority to contact customers from a cell phone directly or through text messages. I was told that FedEx had a strictly enforced policy prohibiting drivers from even learning the phone numbers of delivery recipients (to protect their confidentiality) and that FedEx does not communicate through text messages in discussing delivery issues.
