Claims to be Microsoft n my computer is infected
Scammers misused this number to claim that I would reach an Apple secure help line. It appeared on a pop-up on my computer screen that froze my computer so that I could not look up a proper number or reach Apple help through the normal channel starting from the Apple web page. All computer users should be prepared to avoid being scammed in this way by having on hand information how to reach proper help lines WITHOUT HAVING TO USE THEIR COMPUTER. And anyone computer savvy would know that just turning off the computer should remove the pop-up and restore control--but I let my fear of sabotage overrule my wits in this situation. Scammers are everywhere. Be prepared by educating yourself on how scammers work.
Receiving unwanted or harrassing calls from (888) 237-6651? Report It! You can also add your number to the National DO Not Call Registry by visiting their website or calling (888) 382-1222, but many people have complained about it not being effective. If there is something requiring an immediate attention, please contact your local law enforcement agency or call 911.
