I believe this was a scam. They said that they were AT&T/Directv, offering 50% discount, to loyal customers, like me. I called them back and spoke with a computer-enhanced voice, named Sydney, who confirmed that I would get the discount forever. She then p**sed me to Mick (or Nick) who would complete the processing. He explained that I would have to pay for 10 months, in advance, in order to receive the 50% discount. I asked him to send me the information by mail, so that I would be able to read the 'fine print'. "We can't do that", was his reply. I asked 'why not?' " We will send you a confirmation, after you sign up." (and after I have paid $450 to them). I called the real AT&T phone number, from my monthly statement. The best discount they offered me was $5.99 off my bill, for 3 months , if I signed up for a premium channel! So, which offer was the bigger scam?
