I received a call this morning from a man who said he was named Dustin Bundy, with FDIC. He claimed my \"number\" had been used in New Mexico, they believed it to be fraudulent activity, and asked if I had heard anything about it, and been notified by my \"department\". I asked, \"Department of what?\", and his reply then was, \"Police Department\".
When I asked him a \"good callback number\", he provided 816-234-8153. I then questioned him, \"Oh, so you\'re in Kansas City, MO?\". He replied, \"Yes, and I\'m going to call you back from that number to prove who I am.\".
I then Google\'d it and that is indeed FDIC, but so far (about 10 minutes), I have NOT received another phone call, especially from the FDIC number.
I reverse-looked-up the call-from number, and it is listed as a LANDLINE from San Luis Obispo, CA, **signed to a female named Judith Jennings.
My (very strong) suspicions are that when he realized I am savvy about phone numbers (the KCMO reference) proved that I am observant and knowledgeable both, which was his flag to not try to fool me. I suspect he used some legitimate information (ie FDIC valid phone number and location) in an effort to convince me that he is real, so I would be more willing to offer up confidential information, but if you are very alert, you will notice they are asking you for information but when you ask them, they get frazzled and will usually hang up.
BE CAREFUL FOLKS! The scammers are getting really good day by day, and you must ASK QUESTIONS and STAY PRIVATE!
