On 4/29/25, my mother in Cartersville, GA received a suspicious email that had PayPal listed in the header. It stated that her account was charged USD 351.24 and was going to be deducted from her account within 24 hours. It said if she didn\'t recognize the transaction or wanted to cancer the transaction, to call this number 1-818-230-6237 for customer support. They scammed my mom and got her bank cards, driver\'s license information and scammed over $500 from one of her bank accounts before she realized she was scammed. Once she contacted me, I instructed her to contact her banks, credit agencies received a call from a caller from this number stated that there was a purchase on her PayPal account for a purchase she did not make. My mom didn\'t realize it was a scam, she called the number in the email and provided them with her bank card information and drivers\' license ID card.
Based on my training, here are some of red flags my mom overlooked by accident:
1. She never made a purchase for a gun on Facebook
2. The language and grammar in the letter was very broken.
3. They addressed the person as \"Dear email address\" instead of person\'s actual number.
4. The 818-customer support number they provided in the email was suspension
