I received the exact same call with the same reference number of W145 asking me to call back. I don\'t think so! Sounds like scam.

I received a voice message on my landline yesterday afternoon from 540-453-6003 (Caller ID says \"Weyers Cave VA\"). The message asked me to call back at this same number, use \"Reference Number W145,\" and have a bill ready to discuss with regard to an \"important issue\" with my Washington Gas account.

Before returning the call, I checked my online Washington Gas account and discovered that my landline number is NOT part of my online profile (my cell phone number is **sociated with the real account). I also determined that there were no anomalies or important messages in my online account.

I suspected that the call was a scam and called back this morning with my wife listening on the speakerphone. The female \"agent\" answered with \"Agent Number ???,\" so I played along. She asked me if I was given a reference number and if I had Washington Gas or Columbia Gas. She then asked me to look at my bill for a message under \"Your charges in detail.\" When I told her that there was no such message, she insisted that it must be there. At that point I told her that I knew she was a scam artist and that I would report her to those equipped to investigate the scam.

Immediately following the scam phone call, I called Washington Gas customer service. The agent verified that my account was in order, that there was no \"important issue\" regarding my account, and that 540-453-6003, Ref. No. W145, was NOT related in any way to my account or to Washington Gas.
