The caller claimed to represent Amazon.com\'s fraud department. He told me that my account info. had been stolen and that a roughly $1400 Apple laptop had been pre-authorized for purchase to be mailed to an address in Albany, NY. He then said he\'d transfer me to the FTC so my case could be investigated. A \"John Krebs\" with a very heavy foreign accent answered the phone and gave me an employee ID number of 12117 and a call back phone number 1-202-326-2222. I could hear loud call center noise in the background. He wanted my Name, ZIP, and last 4 SSN digits so he could run a background check on me. I asked for a case number and said I would call amazon, verify there was a fraud concern and call him back at the phone number he provided. He told me I was running away from the case and would \"get into trouble\" if I ended the call. He refused to provide a case number and could not tell me what kind of trouble I would get into if I didn\'t provide the info. he wanted. We went around and around a couple of times, me asking for a case number and him saying I was running away from the call. He said I was wasting his time, and he didn\'t want to talk to me anymore and he hung up.
