I was called and told that my Social Security number had a crime attached to it and needed to be cleared before . . . they asked for name, date of birth and SS number. Caller identified himself as Officer Mike Benson, Badge # 223005. (This was my second call. The first one, a different name and badge number.) I said I had no intention of giving him any personal information. However, I would contact the Social Security office myself and "thanks for the heads up." First thing was to look up this number and found this sight. Next, I'll contact the SS office and then the FBI. They called twice this week. Earlier, this week, I was called by a Pinehurst TX number which said I belonged to a computer service and owed then $299; I never belonged to a service but have been approached this way on several occasions. The voicemail, I have retained, said they would be withholding $299 from bank account if I didn't . . . I called back to ask what they wanted and the above is what I was told. I told them I would contact my bank and the FBI. They hung up on me. I looked up their number, found that it is a "questionable" number. Do not give any information on either of the above numbers and check the numbers out, notify the proper authorities. DO NOT give out any personal information based on phone calls you receive. You can always find a listed number for whomever or whatever they say they represent and call directly. Government agencies tend to take this much more seriously. I found a private company who was being "used" --- company name and location. I called the company, they knew and didn't care. Didn't impose any impact on their business and to hell with the public ---- another example of the hostility and animosity from big business who just don't care about anything but their bottom line.
