SCAM - received alert message on computer to call this number: "A serious malfunction has been detected with Windows 8.1 and your IE 11.0..." I called the number and the answering party said they were from "Verizon Tech Support"

I believe this number is part of a scam to sell software and services. The program I was working on suddenly gave me an alert to call someone who was purportedly a Verizon technician to fix a problem that did not exist. They were apparently able to hack my system because my virus protection was down. BEWARE 855-308-5221.
